Interview with Emay

I was first introduced to Emay’s music one drunken night scouring the interwebs for new music with Denise after she mentioned a friend of hers back east was a rapper/producer. The huge beats, creative sampling, and clever lyrics had me hooked from the first listen. Since then I’ve been lucky enough to get to know him a bit myself and even got the chance to work with him. I have to say he’s one of the nicest, most down to earth people I’ve had the pleasure of talking to. He just dropped his new album Adam on Friday, which you can grab here, so what better time than now to get to know Mubarik Adams a little bit better.

Youngsta - Rinse.FM March 12th 2012

Every Monday night we are blessed with 2 hours of the best deep and minimal dubstep around, courtesy of Youngsta. This guy puts together a seamless 2 hour mix once a week, DJ’ing alongside guests from time to time, and he kills it every week. This last Monday was particularly huge though. Spinning by himself for the duration, Younx dropped one of his hugest mixes yet, leaving me floored for the entire 2 hours. I urge you to go download the podcast for free here.

DJ Madd - The Real & The Shadow

DJ Madd has been rising up through the UK scene at a fast rate over the last couple years. After gaining recognition from the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs among others, and getting continuous plays on Youngsta’s weekly Rinse shows and even guest DJ’ing on the show really gives you an idea of how far he’s come. The Real & The Shadow is his debut LP and it’s a very solid debut at that. The album ranges from the smooth basslines of tracks like“Junglist” and the beautiful “Moving On”, to the more sinister basslines of “Bristol 2 Budapest” and “The Life You Chose”, a track that’s been getting spins from Youngsta for a few months now. DJ Madd is also on top of his game elsewhere, placing vocal samples in the perfect spot and creating eerie synths to give the atmosphere and mood to support his basslines in the most effective way possible. For anyone who enjoy’s their Dubstep/DnB on the deep, dark, and minimal side, be sure to grab The Real & The Shadow, it shows us why DJ Madd is going to be one of the biggest players in the scene for the years to come. Check out an album sampler from Madd himself below:

Defs on a House binge tonight, another great track here by John Roberts. If you haven’t checked out his 2010 album “Glass Eights” do so right now.
